Bound up with the notion of exile through its use in the voting process for ostracism in Ancient Greece, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.academy-in-exile.eu\/ostrakon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ostrakon captures the spirit of this new imprint<\/a>. With the more ephemeral notions of the chapbook or pamphlet in mind,\u00a0<em>Ostrakon<\/em> welcomes multi- and interdisciplinary work, which explores and develops themes broadly related to mass mobility, forced displacement and exile brought about through conflict, climate change, and authoritarianism.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.academy-in-exile.eu\/ostrakon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Ostrakon<\/em><\/a> welcomes contributions from a wide range of authors and artists that move beyond conventional scholarly presentational forms to alternative modes of creative and multimedia work. The intention is to attract scholarly and general readers concerned about human rights, social justice, and the planet&#8217;s future and its inhabitants. Academic submissions will undergo a peer review process. Submissions in English and German are considered with a maximum limit of 25,000 words. <em>Ostrakon<\/em>\u00a0will be published in both hard copy and <a href=\"https:\/\/duepublico2.uni-due.de\/receive\/duepublico_mods_00075914\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The first issue <a href=\"https:\/\/duepublico2.uni-due.de\/receive\/duepublico_mods_00075914\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>X-ist<\/em><\/a>, edited by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polsoz.fu-berlin.de\/ethnologie\/personen\/gastforscher\/moradi_ahmad\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ahmad Moradi<\/a>, is a collective reflection on\u00a0<em>X-ist<\/em>, a collaborative art project on how nature and advanced technologies record the perils of crossing Europe\u2019s external borders. In dialogue with the artworks, four scholars engage with the intricacies of borders and what life borders give rise to or deny.\u00a0<em>X-ist<\/em>\u00a0invites readers, however fleetingly, to embark on a\u00a0journey that some may never experience, yet the horrors of which are as real as it gets for many in the world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ostrakon\u00a0\u2013 a small shard of broken pottery or stone used as a durable and convenient medium for writing scratched into the surface.
