Heise at KWI: Science Fiction and Environmental Crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On monday, 24 October, literary scholar and current Visiting Professor for Public Humanities at <a href=\"https:\/\/wissenschaftsforum.org\/programm\/forumsprofessur\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wissenschaftsforum zu K\u00f6ln und Essen<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/english.ucla.edu\/people-faculty\/heise-ursula-k\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ursula K. Heise<\/a> visited KWI to give a talk on &#8220;Environmental Crisis and the Problem of Realism&#8221;. In this lecture, Heise explored the controversies about what kinds of realism are appropriate and effective in environmental communication today, and argued that the narrative strategies of science fiction, traditionally considered a secondary or minor genre merely designed for entertainment, offer the most interesting foundations for thinking and talking about global environmental change. The event was moderated by <a href=\"https:\/\/gssc.uni-koeln.de\/personen\/mitglieder\/bartosch-dr-jun-prof-roman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roman Bartosch<\/a> of the \u201e<a href=\"https:\/\/climate-change-literacy.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Climate Change Literacy<\/a>\u201c Project at University of Cologne.<\/p>\n<p>The event was the result of a cooperation between the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni-due.de\/anglistik\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Institute for Anglophone Studies of the University of Duisburg-Essen<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni-koeln.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University of Cologne<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/wissenschaftsforum.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wissenschaftsforum zu K\u00f6ln und Essen<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kulturwissenschaften.de\/projekt\/rhine-ruhr-center-for-science-communication-research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rhine-Ruhr Center for Science Communication Research (RRC)<\/a>, and the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities (KWI) Essen.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On monday, 24 October, literary scholar and current Visiting Professor for Public Humanities at Wissenschaftsforum zu K\u00f6ln und Essen Ursula K.
