From now on six new researchers will join us for the upcoming six months during this summer term at KWI. Learn more about the new fellows and their research interests:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kulturwissenschaften.de\/person\/dr-olivia-glaze\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OLIVIA GLAZE<\/a> is a medical humanities scholar whose research explores the narration of experiences of illness, trauma, and disability. She received her PhD in modern and medieval languages from the University of Oxford. At KWI, Olivia will begin a new project entitled <em>Disability and Difference: Relocating \u201cCrip\u201d Identities in Twentieth-Century Portuguese-Speaking Literature and Film<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kulturwissenschaften.de\/person\/dr-matthew-holmes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MATTHEW HOLMES<\/a> is a historian of science and the environment. He received his PhD from the University of Leeds and has held postdoctoral positions at the University of Cambridge and the University of Stavanger. At KWI, Matthew will work on his second book project, <em>Avian Engineers: Animal Minds and Technology in America<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kulturwissenschaften.de\/person\/dr-ciaran-kavanagh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CIAR\u00c1N KAVANAGH<\/a> completed his PhD in English literature at University College Cork. This research forms the basis of his forthcoming book, <em>R<\/em><em>efiguring Reader-Response: Experience and Interpretation in Contemporary Fiction<\/em>. His project at KWI, <em>In Search of Awe, <\/em>investigates the powerful emotion of awe in contemporary science and speculative fiction.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kulturwissenschaften.de\/person\/dr-floramente-sj-ponce\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FLORAMANTE SJ PONCE<\/a> is a social anthropologist. At KWI, he will be part of the international <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kulturwissenschaften.de\/projekt\/cryocultures-de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>CryoCultures<\/em><\/a> research project. He plans to develop papers on the climate politics of artificial cooling among refrigerator users displaced by Chinese hydropower in northern Laos, as well as on the effects of air conditioners among young Laotian scammers in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kulturwissenschaften.de\/person\/dr-alexandria-n-ruble\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ALEXANDRIA N. RUBLE<\/a> is an assistant professor of European history at the University of Idaho. She earned her PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her KWI project, <em>Perpetual Prisoners: The Politics and Memory of Persecution in Post-Fascist Germany, <\/em>explores how former political prisoners, specifically the victims of National Socialism, were reintegrated and remembered.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kulturwissenschaften.de\/person\/dr-christoph-schaub\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CHRISTOPH SCHAUB<\/a> holds a PhD in Germanic languages from Columbia University and completed his Habilitation at the University of Vechta in 2025. As Thyssen@KWI Fellow, he will work on a new project titled <em>A Prehistory of the Present: The Diversity of the Working Class and 1970s German Literature<\/em>, concentrating on the \u201cWerkkreis Literatur der Arbeitswelt\u201d and the role diversity played for this group.<\/p>\n<p>We warmly encourage collaborations between our guest researchers and members of the UA Ruhr.
