Das internationale Forscherteam des ERC-Projekts “Cultures of the Cryosphere | Kulturen der Kryosph\u00e4re<\/a>” schaut auf die Kehrseite unseres K\u00e4ltekonsums und deckt ein weltweites System von K\u00fchlketten, K\u00e4ltespeichern und klimatisierten R\u00e4umen auf. Diese “k\u00fcnstliche Kryosph\u00e4re” ist eine essentielle und vermehrt \u00fcberlebensnotwendige Infrastruktur – doch die energetischen und \u00f6kologischen Kosten unseres K\u00e4ltekonsums sind uns meist ebenso wenig bewusst wie unsere fundamentale Abh\u00e4ngigkeit.<\/p>\n Das u.a. am Kulturwissenschaftlichen Institut Essen (KWI) angesiedelte Projekt untersucht diese “Kulturen k\u00fcnstlicher K\u00e4lte” und hat nun 12 Thesen zum gek\u00fchlten Leben im 21. What is the cost of our growing dependence on cooling systems in the face of noticeable global warming?<\/p>\n The international research team behind the ERC project \u2018Cultures of the Cryosphere<\/a>\u2019 is examining the flip side of our consumption of cold and uncovering a global system of cold chains, cold storage facilities and air-conditioned spaces. This \u2018artificial cryosphere\u2019 is an essential piece of infrastructure that is increasingly vital for survival.
