{"id":4846,"date":"2020-04-02T14:28:17","date_gmt":"2020-04-02T12:28:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kulturwissenschaften.de\/?p=4846"},"modified":"2020-04-08T10:26:06","modified_gmt":"2020-04-08T08:26:06","slug":"quality-newspapers-vs-populism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kulturwissenschaften.de\/en\/quality-newspapers-vs-populism\/","title":{"rendered":"What\u2019s the role of the media in shaping attitudes towards Europe as a continent of immigration?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new publication of the Horizon2020 project \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/kulturwissenschaften.de\/projekt\/novamigra\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Norms and Values in the European Migration and Refugee Crisis (NoVaMigra)<\/a>\u201d takes a closer look at widely read quality newspapers in France, Germany, Poland and Sweden as well as the special case of Hungary where press freedom has been largely dismantled. The Project is led by UDE professor <a href=\"https:\/\/politischephilosophieessen.com\/andreas-niederberger\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andreas Niederberger<\/a> and his team together with <a href=\"https:\/\/kulturwissenschaften.de\/person\/prof-dr-volker-heins\/\">Volker Heins<\/a> at the KWI. Against the backdrop of large and growing differences within the EU with regard to civil liberties, the policy paper aims to identify, compare and contrast media discourses on refugee and immigration policies across a range of EU Member States. These discourses have to be understood in the context of specific national histories and imaginaries.
