Newman<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/uci.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University of California, Irvine<\/a>). It is the first volume in the <a href=\"https:\/\/kulturwissenschaften.de\/en\/akademie-im-exil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Academy in Exile<\/a> book series published by transcript Verlag and a response to the ever-growing number of refugees and displaced people worldwide.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kulturwissenschaften.de\/person\/dr-egemen-oezbek\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Egemen \u00d6zbek<\/a>, a researcher at KWI and an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.academy-in-exile.eu\/about-the-academy\/aie-team\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Academic Coordinator\/Co-Editor of the Academy in Exile book series,<\/a> introduces the book\u2019s intervention as follows, \u201ccalling for the integration of the memories of refugees into collective historical consciousness and the building of a commemorative culture centred on migration heritage, <em>Refugee Routes<\/em> questions longstanding identities and narratives to imagine societies more accommodating to the displaced.\u201d\u00a0\u00d6zbek underlines that \u201cthe volume<em>\u00a0<\/em>calls for the intensification of scholarly, artistic, and activist efforts to memorialize refugee and exilic experiences, routes, and places\u201d and \u201cemphasizes that memorialization should not be limited to \u2018desirable\u2019 refugees but should include \u2018undesirable\u2019 refugees as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For a detailed introduction to the volume by Egemen \u00d6zbek, please also visit the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/trafo.hypotheses.org\/26441?fbclid=IwAR1EZtGdo50ZHTxSCl1NLuj7IOe5WXVV_kMETV7H9sFIjiTH79rhwBKW494\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TRAFO Blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The book is available as an open-access work.
