With a series of events, the EU Horizon2020<\/a> project Norms and Values in the European Migration and Refugee Crisis<\/em> (NoVaMigra)<\/a> reaches its conclusion in May 2021. From 3-5 May 2021, the project\u00a0discussed its results within the scope of an international conference and a policy roundtable.<\/p>\n

Therese Herrmann<\/a> (NoVaMigra) summarizes the events as follows:
\n“The international conference <\/a>The Boundaries of Cosmopolitan Europe<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>brought together leading philosophers and political theorists from across Europe \u2014 including Gurminder Bhambra<\/a> (Sussex), Rainer Baub\u00f6ck<\/a> (Florence) and David Owen<\/a> (Southampton) \u2014 to discuss NoVaMigra’s research results and the future of European cosmopolitanism.\u00a0The Policy Roundtable\u00a0On Norms and Values in Europe’s Migration and Refugee Policy – The Way Forward<\/em><\/a> threw spotlights on the values of gender equality and solidarity and discussed challenges in their implementation in Europan migration and integration policy.”<\/p>\n

The conference also presented and discussed results from NoVaMigra’s final report<\/a> that was published on May 10th, 2021. The report lays out answers to the project’s central research questions: How do the EU’s core values relate to its migration policy? And how has its migration and refugee “crisis” impacted the EU’s cosmopolitan self-understanding? It clarifies the concept of the “EU’s core values” and discusses their interpretations by European courts, policy makers and civil society agents on the ground. It then goes on to construct scenarios for a cosmopolitan future for Europe.<\/p>\n

NoVaMigra is a joint-initiative of the Universit\u00e4t Duisburg-Essen<\/a> (UDE), the KWI as well as Universities and research institutes based in Athens, Budapest, Chicago, Milan, Paris, Poznan and Utrecht.<\/p>\n
