About the project<\/strong><\/p>\n

The majority of people living with dementia in Germany live in private households. The relatives who care for them quickly reach the limits of their capacity and are often overwhelmed by the sheer volume of tasks. This is why caregivers who live in the household of the person requiring care for a limited period of time, so-called live-in helpers, who usually come from Eastern European countries, can help with care. Little is known about whether, how and under what circumstances the use of live-in helpers helps people with dementia, but also their relatives. The new DFG project, in which care scientists and ethicists from the University of Oldenburg<\/a> are working together with communication scientists from the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities in Essen, aims to shed light on this issue.<\/p>\n

The aim of the study is to determine the communication processes and interaction dynamics that unfold when a person with dementia (possibly on behalf of relatives) is cared for by an Eastern European live-in caregiver. Sociological, care science and ethical perspectives will be combined.<\/p>\n
