Die im Februar 2023 in Auckland gegründete Arbeitsgruppe „Health and Addiction“ hat sich Anfang September zum ersten Mal in Deutschland getroffen. Prof. Dr. Jo Reichertz (Kulturwissenschaftliches Institut Essen), Dr. Martin Harbusch (Universität Siegen) und Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bruce Cohen (University of Auckland) besichtigten zunächst die Universität Siegen und das Kulturwissenschaftliche Institut Essen, bevor sie mit dem inhaltlichen Austausch begannen. In Siegen wurde ein Kontakt zur neuen Fakultät 5 hergestellt, dessen Gründungsdekan Prof. Dr. Christoph Strünck sich ebenso interessiert wie erfreut über die neue Kooperation zeigte. In Essen wurde am gemeinsamen ersten Sammelband gearbeitet, der 2025 erscheinen soll, sowie Pläne über die Einwerbung von Forschungsgeldern für die kommenden Jahre besprochen. Eine institutionsübergreifende internationale soziologische Konferenz wird ebenfalls angedacht.
Meeting of the „Health and Addiction“ working group in Siegen and Essen
Founded in Auckland, New Zealand, in February 2023, the „Health and Addiction“ working group met for the first time in Germany in early September. Prof. Dr. Jo Reichertz (Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities Essen), Dr. Martin Harbusch (University of Siegen) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bruce Cohen (University of Auckland) visited both the University of Siegen and the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities Essen to meet with research staff and work together on some forthcoming projects. In Siegen, contact was established with the new Faculty 5, whose founding Dean, Prof. Dr. Christoph Strünck, was highly enthusiastic about the new research partnership. In Essen, strategic work was carried out towards the establishment of a first joint volume (an edited collection on the social construction of ‘addiction’, with contributors from the US, Canada, England, Germany, Sweden, and New Zealand) and plans were discussed regarding the acquisition of research funding for the next few years. Consideration was also given to organizing an international sociological conference across the institutions.
