Online (ZOOM) & Kulturwissenschaftliches Institut Essen (KWI), Room 106, Goethestr. 31, 45128 Essen

In preparation for a special issue of ADMINISTORY, the editorial team is organizing an authors’ workshop to present and reflect on the contributions received after the call launched in 2022, themed Administrative Cultures and their Aesthetics. The event brings together 17 authors discussing 15 pre-circulated articles in English and German.

This special issue seeks to unpack aesthetic configurations manifest in literary and artistic works engaging with state administration and related bureaucratic topics and spaces, set in (or against) a variety of historical backgrounds. The contributions discuss the ways in which specific narrative or visual strategies and stylistic devices identifiable in these works help to shape a distinct imagery of specific administrations, with their underlying complexities, tensions, and paradoxes. In short, the issue deals with the aesthetics of specific administrative cultures.
