Lecture: On Twitter

Nan Z. Da, University of Notre Dame

Online (Zoom)

This talk offers a literary-critical description of Twitter’s engineering with reference to key terms from utilitarianism, liberalism, and their corresponding cultures of data use. It pays particular attention to Twitter’s record of speech and responses to speech in real time, and suggests some connections between this function and literary criticism’s structural ambivalence toward the determinability of authorial intent.
