This presentation focuses on the genderless and fluid queer spaces of Istanbul; gay hamams, cruising cinemas, cafes, bars and streets… The LGBTIQ+ resistance, which was not included or seen in the solidarity of the Left movement in Turkey and systematically attacked by the conservative regimes, has created spaces where it can exist in solidarity. These areas of solidarity have been tried to be erased from the texture and reality of the city many times due to gentrification, police repression, public violence and „cleansing movements“. Diren Demir talks about the history of Queer Exile in Turkey, city texture, perpetrators of the anti-LGBTIQ+ movement and currently increasing pressures for LGBTIQ+ identities in the region.
